    Breakages and Luxations

     Mostly, It is the result of a collapse and hit but sometimes it happens spontaneously. It is simply a deformity in bone’s unity. The breakages may give symptoms like pain, ache and swellings , along with deformities.

    Arm breakage

    Humerus breakages may occur as a result of  getting it, an heavy objects and sudden contractions. Ilnesses that make the bones weaker is one of the reason of the arm breakage. We can count the symptoms of this breakage as a pan on the arm, trusgency and deformities.  It can ba challenging movement to lift the arms after the breakage.  If it is lifted, there occurs a serios pain and friction sound.

    Treatment of the Arm Breakage

    It is usually treated with, plaster and splins. If there is a damage on the radial nerves, wound of vessel, dislocation in the breakage’s edges or the breakage is visible then a surgery is a must.

    Wrist Breakage

    Generally, falling from a high place, falling off low place, reversedly, falling off a bcycle or motocycle give a way to wrist on the hand. A pain on the wrist, swellings, uncapability of moving the hands and deformities can be the symptoms of the breakage.  The breakage is diagnosed  after the radiological examination together with the doctor’s examination.

    Wrist Breakage Treatment

    If there is no dislocation or deformity in the edges of the breakage, it is treated with the plaster. If there is a slip in the edge and it is an open breakage then a surgery may come to table. The operaiton is made under either a loca lor general anesthesia.

    Ankle Breakage

    Taking a hit, falling off a place, traffical accident or sprains are the main reasons of the ankle breakage. Pain following the trauma, turgescency and uncapability of using the foot can be the symptoms of the ankle brekage. Radiography is need fort he diagnosis. In some cases, tomography or MRI can be necessary.

    Treatment of the Ankle Breakage

    If there is no deformity or slip in the edge of the brekage, nonsurgical ankle brekage treatment can be applied. Plaster and split can be used in this method. If there is a slip, risk of slip or it is an open breakage then a surgery may be neceserray.

    The Luxation

    This can be explained as a  change of normal joint relations thorough one of the bones in a joint or all of the bones’s relocating their own places on each other. Together with the luxation, membrane ligaments, called as the joint capsule,  enclosing the joint can be torn. This situation oftenly results in a luxation and sprain. There is a pain, turgescencyor movement limitation in dislocated joints. The dislocated joint is twisted and the joint gets it’s healty shape.

     

    • Don NEVER try to put the joint it’s place back.
    • Keep in mind that there might be a tear on the sutral ligament, a breakage on the joint and on the bones next to this joint if you are unsure about the luxation.
    • Put an ice pack covered with a towel for half an hour on the dislocated joint.
    • Balance the arm on the level of heart in the case of arm and shoulder luxations.
    • Get the patient to the closest healt center.

    Doç. Dr. Ata Can was born in Iran, in 1973.  He has completed his primary and secondary educations in Iran. He was graduated from Pertevniyal High School in 1996.  He has completed medical education at Dokuz Eylul University Medical Faculty, Izmır, 1996.

    He has completed his orthopedy and  traumatology  speciality with a thesis named Child Nip Breakages at Cerrahpaşa Medical Faculty, 2001.

    He has worked at Eyüp SSK Hospital, 2001-2007, Halk Bahat Hospital, 2007-2008 and  Beylikdüzü Kolan Hospital,  2009-2010.  Currently he has been working at NOMERK Nişantaşı Orthopedy Center with Prof. Dr. Nejat Güney and Prof. Dr. Fahri Erdoğan since 2010.
