Hallux Valgus Treatment

Hallux Valgus Treatment

hallux valgus Hallux Valgus, popularly known as big toe protrusion, is a genetically inherited foot deformity that manifests itself when the first metatarsal bone turns inward and the big toe bone turns outward, causing intense pain and negatively affecting the quality of life. It is more likely to occur in patients with a family history of hallux valgus and a genetic predisposition. However, wearing narrow-toed high-heeled shoes causes hallux valgus to progress faster.

Although orthoses such as night splints and toe rollers used in the treatment of hallux valgus provide temporary relief to the patient, they do not provide correction of this deformity. This deformity can be successfully corrected with hallux valgus surgery, especially in cases where the pain continues intensely and daily life is negatively affected. However, the point that should be emphasized here is that the same surgery should not be performed on every hallux valgus patient. After standing x-rays and clinical examination, the most appropriate hallux valgus surgery technique should be decided. Therefore, the right hallux valgus surgery must be performed on the right patient. The knowledge and experience of the specialist physician in the treatment of hallux valgus has an important place among the factors that play a role in the success of the treatment.
