    Meniscus Treatment

Meniscuses are  located on the knee joint,  over shin bone’s inner and outer sides. This C chapes structures are cartilages structures in the body. The mesniscuses have a semiluner shape and covers the 2/3 of a smooth part named plato which is located on the shin bone. As we move forward to the centre of the meniscus, the part attached to  the joint cuff gets thicker. There are knit-shaped collagen tendonds against the pressing power. These structures are elastic. The meniscuses enables the lower part of the thigh bone to touch the smooth part of the shin bone. Harmony in this process is so perfect that  the meniscuses make these two components work duly at every angle. Morover, 1/3 outer part of the meniscuses is nourished with the blood and the rest is with the joint liquid. The mesniscuses have the functions like shock absorbing, empowering the knee and protecting the joint. They are not only strained while sporting but also while doing the Daily activities. The outher meniscuses, in contrast to the inner meniscus, have more movement capability and are less exposed to being injured. The inner meniscuses get injured 3 three times more than the outer meniscuses.

In the knee injury, the patient should apply a cold bag, have a rest and keep away from moving the knee. The painkiller is used to make the patient more relaxed.  At the second stage, doctor decides upon a surgery.  If the pain does not ferive from a meniscus and the patient’s current condition is not appropriate for the surgery, then the operation may not happen.

In the  meniscal tear, a surgical treatment can be applied in the face of an ache affecting the dailiy life. There are two options that can be applied in the meniscal tear:

Meniscus repairement: If there is a tear on outer side of the meniscus, then this method can be applied , however, this method is not applicable for every patient. Arthoscopycally, the repairement is possible and the results are better compared to the open surgery. On the other hand,  the recovery period is longer in a comparison to the patients who’s torn  meniscuses are cut off the body ( menisectomy ).

Menisectomy: This is a method the torn part of the meniscus is taken off. This method is applied on outher tears, that does not have a possibility to recover, of the meniscus. If it is operated arthroscopically, the recovery period gets faster and the patient can get up in the same day.
